Discrimination is often subtle. Keep records of everything โ including how you found out about the unit, the timeline of your application, and any reasons given for denial.
Overview
The California Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) prohibits housing discrimination based on a wide range of protected characteristics โ far broader than federal law. If a landlord has refused to rent to you, harassed you, or treated you differently because of who you are, you may have a legal claim for damages, injunctive relief, and attorney fees.
